This article will guide you through how we help clients who need their rings cut off.
We use a small mechanical rotary saw (and one of the team will show you) specially designed for cutting off rings. It’s safe, the team are trained, and we’ve been using it for years. When we cut through, we have no idea where the hallmark is. If damaged, it can be re-stamped – ask us for more information on this. The ring will become misshaped after the process and require repair. If you have a gemset ring, we can’t guarantee the integrity of the setting after the removal, again, this can be repaired. See ‘repairing after’ below.
· Cutting an take 3 to 10 minutes depending on the ring
· Due to the friction, the ring may become hot – just ask us to stop, the metal cools fast
· You may hear a snap/ ping as the cutting completes
· When we cut through and take away the saw, please don’t attempt to remove it, the newly cut edges are sharp – we will use pliers to open the ring wider and instruct you when it’s safe to pull your finger through
· If at any time you are uncomfortable, please ask us to pause.
If your finger is accidentally cut we have basic first aid training to clean your finger and will apply a plaster. If you are worried about your finger subsequently please speak to a pharmacist, your GP or the NHS.
Your finger can take 2 to 12 weeks to settle down to a resting size and it’s at this point that we can repair it for you by taking a new finger size measurement. We can repair almost all rings and can advise you on this at the right time. Click here to read about our repair service.
If you have any medical conditions these must be taken into consideration before proceeding our work, it’s your responsibility to do so and by signing a form saying you’re consenting to us cutting off the ring and agreeing to all the terms stated (a version of this page). We do not keep your ring.
Our fee is £50 for ring cutting off service, inclusive of VAT.
