 Please be sure to read the full page. We may vary these terms from time to time and you should check them before making a purchase. 

Gemstone disclosure: All our gemstones are natural, not artificial unless expressly stated (currently only laboratory grown diamonds). Nearly all our coloured gemstones will have had some form of treatment. The majority of rubies and sapphires sold globally are heat-treated to enhance their appearance. Unless otherwise stated, it is assumed all rubies and sapphires will have undergone this treatment. This treatment is stable and permanent.

 

1/. JACOBS ONLINE

Shipping and delivery:

Products that are on display in this store can be ordered and shipped directly to customers. Delivery is free over £35 and £4.95 for baskets below £35. We ship by Royal Mail special delivery and usually despatch same working day if orders are received by 3pm, arriving next day or within 3 working days of order. 

The following terms and conditions will apply to all purchases made via the website or telephone. All contracts shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English Law and any disputes or proceedings shall be subject to jurisdiction at the English courts.

We have taken every step to ensure that the information displayed on the website is correct. The images displayed on the website are not necessarily a representation of the actual size. If you wish to know the exact dimensions of a particular item, then please feel free to email or telephone us.

We are unable to guarantee that the colour of an image of a product is an accurate representation as different computers and monitors may alter the colour of a particular image.

All prices shown are in pound sterling (£) and include the VAT rate unless clearly stated.
We reserve the right to alter our prices and specifications without notice. We will confirm any details when replying to your emails.

 

1.1/. Terms of Purchase

The full price of your order must be paid for before we send any part of the order.

The order is binding after you have received the order confirmation and details from us, and the payment for the goods is cleared. All orders are subject to stock availability and payment clearance.

1.2/. Warranties

Jacobs of Reading make no warranties as to the accuracy and completeness of any content included on the website. We also do not take responsibility for any contact of third party websites we may link to.

1.3/. Enquiries

For enquiries about your order or delivery, please contact us on telephone 0118 959 0790, or email connect@jacobsofreading.com quoting your order number.

1.4/. Payment

We are pleased to accept orders online through our secure server.

All credit / debit card transactions are subject to validation checks and authorised by the card issuer. We accept Mastercard, Visa, Delta, Switch, Maestro and Solo. If the issuer of the card refuses to authorise payment to us, we will not be liable for any delay or non-delivery of your order.

All orders will need to be processed with a valid card payment in the name of the registered cardholder. Please Note: The address for delivery will be the same as the billing address. Please ensure the address given for delivery is secure as responsibility for loss or damage of the items passes to the customer at the point of receipt of goods. If someone without authority signs for the delivery/ purchase at the address given by you, it will not be the responsibility of Jacobs of Reading.

1.5/. Order and Delivery Information/Process

Once your order has been received you will be sent an automatic email to confirm the order has been placed.
We will then contact you the day before your item is due to be dispatched and will let you know how we will be sending it.

We aim to process and dispatch items within 1-3 working days of receiving your order, unless the item is special order in which case it could take up to 15 working days. If for some reason your item will take longer than this, we will notify you. We send all parcels using either Royal Mail Signed For service or Royal Mail Special Delivery.

We will not be held liable for late delivery of goods caused by circumstances beyond our control. It is your responsibility to ensure there is a person to accept the delivery on the day specified. We will not be held responsible if the delivery was attempted and there was no one to receive the order.

1.6/. Overseas Delivery

We are unable to ship overseas unless a prior arrangement has been made. In which case, delivery charge will be liable to change according to individual circumstances.

1.7/. Delivery

Please ensure the address given for delivery is secure as responsibility for loss or damage of the items passes to the customer at the point of receipt of goods. If someone without authority signs for the delivery/ purchase at the address given by you, it will not be the responsibility of Jacobs the Jewellers. 

1.8/. Cancellation Policy

The customer has 7 days after receipt of an email order acknowledgement to cancel their order. The customer will then be required to inform Jacobs of Reading of cancellation by email, fax or letter before returning the goods using the same standard of postage as used for delivery. The goods must be in their original unworn condition with all packaging and documentation included at time of posting.

It is the customers’ responsibility to ensure safe delivery of cancelled orders back to Jacobs of Reading. This will be performed at the customer’s own expense. Your refund will be processed in 3 to 5 working days and is subject to our checking the goods.

Please Note: We are unable to receive any returned earrings due to health and safety reasons. In this case, the order must be cancelled before goods have been shipped.

Please Note: We are only able to credit the account from which the original purchase was made.

1.9/. Returns Policy

Occasionally we understand that you may wish to return an item for an exchange or refund. Any item for exchange or refund must be unworn and returned at the customers own expense within 30 days from the date on the receipt. Your item may have a safety tag attached to it, once this has been removed we cannot accept items back for refund or exchange. This does not affect your statutory rights or our responsibilities.

Before posting, you must first make Jacobs aware either by phone or email. Any item returned to us without prior warning will not be accepted and will be returned to the customer.

The item must be in its original condition and packaging, accompanied by the original receipt and all packaging, labelling, accessories, manuals and any other documentation included at the time of posting. Without all documentation, we will not accept the item for refund or exchange.

1.10/. Special Orders

We will not accept goods for return if they were special orders unless the goods are deemed to be faulty.

1.11/. Engraving

We will not accept goods for return if they have been engraved unless the goods are deemed to be faulty.

1.12/. Earrings

We can not accept earrings for return unless they are deemed to be faulty. This is due to health and safety reasons.

1.13/. Sale items

All jewellery and watches come with standard maker or manufacturer's guarantee.

All items at sale or discontinued prices are sold as seen.

Some pendants include chains, others do not.

Owing to the exceptional pricing, re-sizing or alterations are subject to charge.

Ordering in similar products or variations on sale items may not be possible at the same sale prices.

Items bought in the sale may not be returned or exchanged, your statutory rights are not affected, unless explicitly agreed and noted at time of sale with an explicit timeframe agreed. In a 'lockdown' scenario, any agreed returns must be made within 2 weeks of re-opening.

Interest free credit is not available on sale items.

LMG settlement is not available on sale items.

Sale items have been advertised for more than 30 days at the marked fuller price some time in the past either in-store or on our website. You can ask us for more information at any time.  

1.14/ Returns

It is your responsibility to ensure that the items are packed securely and are covered by the Royal Mail Special Delivery or Signed For system where appropriate.

Postage and packaging charges are non-refundable unless goods are faulty.

Goods will not be accepted for credit after 30 days of receipt under any circumstances, unless the goods are deemed to be faulty. Credit notes are only valid for 2 years from point of issue.

Please Note: We are only able to credit the account from which the original purchase was made.

2/. INSTORE

2.1/. REFUNDS AND EXCHANGES

Excluding special orders or bespoke, we offer a full money back guarantee or credit note on our jewellery or watches if returned within 30 days of purchase. The pieces must be unworn, with all certificates if supplied, all original packaging undamaged, unaltered and with original receipt. We may need to inspect all elements before the refund and may ask for a few days to do so, at most 12 working days, reserving the right to charge a fair fee should any of requests not be met. Your statutory rights are not affected. This excludes sale items which may not be exchanged or refunded, statutory rights excepting. Above these rights, we advise you to consider insuring your purchase against loss or accidental damage; your insurers will guide you as to your options. Credit notes are valid for 2 years from point of issue.

2.2/. INSURANCE INFORMATION & ADVICE

We advise you to ensure adequate insurance cover for your jewellery and watches against all risks including but not limited to, accidental damage and loss. This is over and above your statutory rights for newly purchased items, as we will not accept liability for accidental damage. In the unfortunate event of a claim being necessary many insurance companies will attempt to introduce settlement by voucher or replace your jewellery through third party suppliers. Please be advised, according to the Insurance Ombudsman, you are not obliged to accept these options; you may stipulate you wish to return to your original supplier or in handmade specialist cases, the original maker. We would be pleased to advise you if required. We strongly recommend keeping your insurance values up to date.

2.3/. ANTI MONEY LAUNDERING PROCEDURES

Jacobs operates anti money laundering controls, as required by law. You may be asked to provide evidence of your identity prior to your transaction being carried out. We will keep copies of any documentary evidence presented together with any transactions to comply with our legal obligations. Many thanks for your understanding.

2.4/.REPAIRS

a. Warranty
Items trusted to Jacobs are always treated with the utmost care in our specialised workshops. Any repair carried out is guaranteed for 12 months from the date of the repair. The guarantee covers the materials used, spare components and any spare parts plus labour used in the repair. It is independent of any guarantee with the purchase of the item itself. Our guarantee does not cover damage in case of subsequent accident or abusive use (shock, dent etc.) or exceptional circumstances. For items not purchased from Jacobs we cannot accept responsibility for stone setting, materials or workmanship subsequent to repairs carried out, unless intrinsically and directly being part of the repair itself. This does not affect your statutory rights.

b. Watch Batteries
We regret that we cannot be responsible for the functioning of watches upon replacement of the battery unless fully serviced at the same time.

c. Estimates
In certain cases repairs may be subject to an administration fee if, after estimate, the repair is not progressed and is returned undone.

d. Repairs & Our Goldsmith
Whilst we have a goldsmith on site, at our discretion, certain repairs may be sent to our workshops via Royal Mail Special Delivery.

e. Uncollected repairs will be disposed of 6 months after we notify you they are ready for collection. We follow our trade associations Code of Practice in this regard (The National Association of Jewellers). 

f. Uncollected valuations. After a month of notifying you that your items are ready post assessment for valuation, we will charge £50 per part week to store items. After 6 months, the above process for uncollected items will apply (section e).

2.5/. CONFLICT DIAMONDS

Jacobs’ diamonds have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations Resolutions. We guarantee that these diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by our suppliers. Older pieces of jewellery containing diamonds will in most cases carry our pledge that we have made our best efforts to assure the stones’ legitimacy.

 

2.6/. INTEREST FREE CREDIT

Credit subject to status and affordability. Terms & Conditions Apply. Jacobs is a partnership trading as Jacobs the Jewellers is a credit broker and is Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, our firm reference is 952829.

Credit is provided by Novuna Personal Finance, a trading style of Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC,  authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Financial Services Register no. 704348. The register can be accessed through http://www.fca.org.uk

You will be offered the best rate available based on your credit history and the lenders’ credit decision policies. Other lending options will be available though not through Jacobs the Jewellers. 3.0/. JACOBS ACADEMY

To the best of our knowledge, all information contained in our academy is accurate and reliable as of the date of publication; however, we do not assume any liability whatsoever for the accuracy and completeness of it. Any information given should not be taken as an instruction or recommendation to buy. It is the customers' responsibility to educate themselves, inspect and to test any products in order to satisfy themselves as to the suitability to their particular circumstances. 5/. PROMOTIONS

Any Jacobs promotion is subject to a few terms and conditions. Promotions apply to full price items only, not available for interest free credit or insurance voucher settlement. Unless explicitly mentioned, will exclude services like repairs, valuations or design and products such as those on sale on behalf of clients or investment gold (coins/ bars). The 'welcome to Jacobs' promotion when signing up to our newsletter is valid once. Other conditions may apply - the above is not an exhaustive list. We reserve the right to alter these from time to time, and all promotions are subject to fair use and our discretion. You can always ask us for more information via our contact page

6/. COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE. 

We rarely get complaints but when we do we treat them seriously, tactfully and thoroughly. If you're unhappy with any aspect you should:

1 - Raise it with the member of staff looking after you, their name is on your receipt or via connect@jacobsthejewellers.com or 0118 959 0790.

2 - If unhappy with progress, please raise it via email to our Managers via connect@jacobsthejewellers.com or 0118 959 0790.

3 - If you are still unhappy you can write to the owner, Mr Jacobs, at connect@jacobsthejewellers.com or 0118 959 0790.

We aim to look into and report back within 14 working days, if not sooner. 

Ultimately and in the very unlikely case of still being unhappy, we also belong to our trade associations' dispute resolution service, details available on request at connect@jacobsthejewellers.com. For information, they are unable to help until the 3 steps above have been completed.
