Being part of the Reading community is really important to us. As an independent business in Reading town centre for over 75 years, it's embedded in our DNA to be involved in the community.  2024 has seen a number of initiatives in Reading, and sometimes beyond.

Charity Work in Reading

Our main charity partner is the Royal Berks Charity, and we've been working with them for the best part of a decade, raising over £130,000 in the process. This year we've been focussing on raising funds to refurbish the cardiac care outpatient waiting room. The target is £39,000 and we've already raised £26,000.

We held our Summer Social in the Purple Turtle raising just over £6,000. This Xmas we've a raffle in store and hope this helps too!

We've supported a number of local charities with small contributions: My Cancer, My Choice; Launchpad; Home Start Reading; Birch Copse School and Jelly Reading.

Business Community

We're founding partners of Ethical Reading and have enjoyed their events. Adam Jacobs continues to serve as a board member of REDA, Reading's Economy and Destination Agency, having stepped down as Chair in the Summer after 8 years of service. Mel from the team is looking to join Reading's Business Improvement District in 2025.

Jewellery Industry Community

Since stepping down as Chair of REDA, Adam has taken up the role of Chair of the National Association of Jewellers. This is a prestigious national role and is the first time any retailer from the local Reading area has taken this position. Representing retailers, manufacturers, valuers, students and allied crafts / services it's a role that brings new expertise and learning to Reading.
